DISCOVER QUEENSTOWN

Renowned for its breathtaking scenery and adrenalin-fuelled adventures, Queenstown is a magical destination for travellers all year round.

Queenstown hasn’t earned its title of “Adventure Capital of the World” for nothing. Perched on the edge of tranquil Lake Wakatipu and surrounded by dramatic alpine scenery, this vibrant township has a smorgasbord of adventure activities on offer.

Four nearby ski fields – Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona and Treble Cone – all offer varied and unrivalled terrain and make Queenstown a skier’s and snowboarder’s paradise. As if that wasn’t enough, the area is blessed with one of the longest ski seasons in the Southern Hemisphere running from early June until early October.

The options to get your heart well and truly pumping are seemingly endless. Try bungy jumping, skydiving, canyon swinging, rock climbing, tandem hang gliding or parapenting, four-wheel driving, river rafting, or jet boating on The Shotover and Kawarau Rivers.

Other activities include horse trekking, ice-skating, mini golf, water skiing, wind surfing, fishing and hiking. Queenstown also boasts the Southern Hemisphere’s only gondola accessed downhill mountain biking trail. Cyclists are spoilt for choice with a range of scenic and backcountry trails, road rides and heli-biking available.

If you like to take life at a slightly slower pace, walking trails and sightseeing tours are an ideal way to soak up the scenery. Take the Gondola up to the Skyline Restaurant and Luge where you can fully appreciate Queenstown's spectacular views.

History buffs will fall in love with the charming gold mining settlement of Arrowtown just 20 minutes’ drive away. Try your luck at gold panning, visit the old jail and Chinese settlement, and explore the Arrowtown Museum – one of the best boutique museums in the country.

Back in Queenstown, bustling bars, cafes, restaurants offer excellent food and wine, and a selection of quality boutiques and beauty spas are sure to keep the credit card in action! Everything you need is at your fingertips – including the convenience of an international airport.

Whether you’re drawn to the crisp, blue winter skies, spring’s longer and warmer days, summer sunshine and long twilights, or the brilliant red and gold colours of autumn, Queenstown is a must-see spot anytime of year.
