Going to Christchurch this weekend?

You may be one of the crowds going to the sold out Friday night All Blacks v Argentinia – AMI Stadium or simply want to be around for the buzz of excitement.   You might be spending the last weekend of the school holidays catching those last July Specials on Host Rewards or just want to see Christchurch’s rebuild and wintery beauty. Whatever your reason, going to Christchurch is always stimulating and not just because of its frosty mornings.

A place for all ages is the Air Museum and if you are lucky you might get a sneak peek at a Mosquito being rebuilt. Wander around central Christchurch’s rebuild, pay your respects at the 185 White Chairs Memorial and visit Quake City in Cashel St. for an overview of the before and after. Or stay with the indoor theme and head for the International Antarctic Centre, or Canterbury Museum or take a ride on the tram. Remember to take a drive out to Sumner, walk the beach and gaze at the snow capped Alps panorama in the distance.  If you want to go further afield, the Tranz Alpine train is one way to gain a picture of the South Island in all its variety and winter beauty in just five hours from sea to mountains and back again. Then warm up and refuel at one of Christchurch’s new restaurants or bars down rebuilt Victoria St. or check out Addington’s community vibe. Whatever your reason for heading to Christchurch this weekend, you are spoilt for choice.
